From the FWSA Convention Committee:

Ski club members, friends and ski industry representatives from throughout the western United States will convene for the 89th Annual Far West Ski Association Convention, June 9 – 12, 2022, at the Holiday Inn – Portland, Columbia Riverfront, in Portland, Oregon. The convention is hosted by the Northwest Ski Club Council. A discounted room rate of $154 per night is available for attendees who reserve by May 10th. Convention registration information is on the FWSA website www.fwsa.org.

 

 

The Keynote Speaker will be Olympic gold and silver medalist, Phil Mahre.  Phil won the silver medal in Lake Placid in 1980 in the slalom and the gold medal in alpine combined. In 1984, Phil and his brother Steve, both medaled….Phil won the gold in slalom and Steve took the silver medal.  Phil was elected to the US National Ski Hall of Fame in 1981.  He does a training camp every summer on Mt. Hood.  

 

 

An amazing lineup of speakers will be joining us this year, for the Snowsport Leadership Academy and the Public Affairs Panels.  Steve Rollins, of Portland Mountain Rescue will be speaking at the mid-morning SLA session on Saturday.  Local Chief Meteorologist, Matt Zaffino, of station KGW will be speaking during the Public Affairs session on Saturday, along with US Forest Service representative Wade Muehlhof. The afternoon Public Affairs session will feature Trux Dole, President of the 10th Mountain Division Foundation.  The named charity for this year’s event, is the Mount Hood Ski Patrol.

 

 

FWSA is recognizing three amazing families with the FWSA Snowsports Builder Award. The Drake family, founders and operators of Mt. Hood Meadows; the Kohnstamm family, operators of Timberline Lodge and Timberline Ski Aera; and Kirk Hanna, operator of Mt. Hood SkiBowl and developer of Collins Lake Resort.
